Phoning It In

When we're watching video on our phones, we'll know that times have changed. The deal between Verizon and YouTube to get the latter's content onto the former's phones is a pretty big deal. What's going to look good in the age of mobile delivery?

This commercial presents an obvious, but intriguing idea. As usual, sex will lead the way.

Think about this, anybody with a nice phone will be able to make and watch video from anywhere they can get a signal. What will be watched, and what will be made?

What will you make? (You, Person of the Year, you.)

ps - Here's a story from today about Verizon phones and TV shows.

I'm on 3 mobile and I have a Sony Ericsson handset that enables video calling and making, it even has a little edit system where I can add text and effects. I can download music videos, watch the footy highlights and subscribe to what seems like endless amounts of soft porn. However, I find that the only thing that works for me is the stuff that's highlighted in the commercial there, personal interaction. I like to communicate with my friends and family via the mobile phone, actually in my case, it’s almost an addiction. I can watch sport, music videos, or whatever, on my TV or Computer screen or even on my ipod, which can be plugged into the TV so paying for latest Killers video and watching it on a tiny screen just really doesn’t appeal to me.

In shooting for the tiny screen, I've found myself caring less about the rule of thirds in my frame, and instead, I'm using the entire frame. Unlike movie screens, these frames are only small windows floating in a larger frame. Perhaps this embeded, nature of this media will be something we consider when we author the stuff.
